The Step and Cheer teams performed in an incredible showcase honoring their seniors, and the Basketball team also celebrated their seniors at Senior Night against St. Vincent Ferrer this month.

As a Cathedralite, Amanda Mercado ’22 was a co-moderator of the World Youth Alliance Club for three years. Recently, she was awarded the prestigious Viktor Frankl Award by the World Youth Alliance as the North American recipient!

The CHS Dance Program was thrilled to welcome Tony-nominated dancer and actress Karine Plantadit to speak to students about her journey through professional dance.

We welcomed dozens of prospective Cathedralites and their families earlier this month for a successful Accepted Students Day, thanks to our fabulous faculty, staff, and student volunteers. After exploring the academic and athletic exposition in the gym, prospective students experienced homeroom, mini-classes, and small-groups before the pep rally in the gym!

Last Tuesday, Sophomores spent the day at a retreat hosted by Enliven, our faith and service club, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish. During this Advent season of waiting, students reflected on Saint John the Baptist’s call to prepare our hearts to receive Christ. Through bonding activities, competitions, time for prayer, and bible study groups, they grew in friendship with each other and with Christ.

Led by Ms. Amy Anci, the seniors in the Medical Gateways Academy visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art this week for a specialized field trip exploring the connections between art, science, and medicine. Students observed paintings and sculptures from different time periods and cultures to learn how anatomical knowledge influenced art and understand the historical context of medical practices.

On Tuesday, Sophomore students from Mr. Doyle’s Finance and Marketing class traveled to Midtown East to participate in Junior Achievement’s financial planning program called Finance Park. The program emphasized and reinforced the themes that the class has been working on this year through a simulation experience!

Juniors in our Medical Gateways Academy visited the University of Mount Saint Vincent for a tour and a visit to the SIM lab in the Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing! In the lab, they practiced taking vital signs, hooking up IVs, and more using simulated patients.

Thanks to the generosity and partnership of Rock the Street, Wall Street, CHS students visited Värde Partners, an alternative investment firm, for an on-site, educational experience. The students toured the offices, listened to a career panel, engaged in workshop sessions on topics such as saving and investing, and spent the last hour of the event practicing networking skills with the firm’s finance professionals.

Thanks to the generosity of a Cathedralite, Arlise Ellis ’81, Mr. Sentmanat’s music classes toured the House of Jazz for an incredible musical experience! After the tour, Cathedralites observed a portion of the famous Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra’s “Big Band Christmas” rehearsal.

Enliven, our faith and service club, visited the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal in Harlem to prepare Christmas gifts for families with low resources. Their service was paired with opportunities for prayer and a Q&A with the Sisters!

Last week, 4 of Ms. Cynthia Chen’s art students visited an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art entitled Siena: The Rise of Painting, 1300–1350. The students spent the afternoon exploring the style, craft, and significance of the art produced in Siena, Italy and were even able to speak with the exhibit’s curator!

Students in Ms. Bermudez’s and Ms. Fernandez’s Spanish classes traveled to Queens to visit the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet's “Day Of Culture Through Dance” performance!

Last month, we were deeply honored to welcome esteemed guests Dean G. Marcus Cole of the University of Notre Dame Law School and Dean Martijn Cremers of the University of Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business. Deans Cole and Cremers shared their personal stories of perseverance and trust in God’s long term plans for their lives and emphasized the value of Catholic education.

Broadway Bound Kids provides high quality programming to students interested in acting and musical theatre, free of charge. Amariah M. ’25 is participating in her second year in the musical theater program, and this Fall, she was one of five students selected to perform in Josh Groban’s Find Your Light Foundation Gala!

We were so blessed to welcome Dr. Felicia Snead ’86 to Cathedral this week to speak to Health classes about her experience studying medicine to become a radiation oncologist! Dr. Snead’s story is an outstanding example of faith, grit, resilience, and determination. She shares that “anything hard is worth working hard for.”

Students in Enliven, our faith and service club, ran a food drive to collect food for families in need for Thanksgiving! The whole student body and staff came together to collect over 500 food items for Mercy Center in the Bronx!

Immaculée Ilibagiza grew up in a loving family in a small village in Rwanda. Her life changed forever in 1994 when the outbreak of the Rwandan genocide forced her to go into hiding for 91 days. During these months, Immaculée committed herself to prayer, and experienced an interior transformation that has since touched millions of people around the world. On Monday, she shared her story of faith, hope, and forgiveness with the Cathedral community.

On Friday, October 25, Cathedralites joyfully donned pink and walked around Central Park’s Reservoir for Breast Cancer Awareness Month after raising money for the cause! Ms. Amy Anci, the Director of our Medical Gateways Academy, organized the event in order to “show that hope is stronger than fear, and awareness is a powerful step toward prevention.”

Airman Sharon Villacres-Baracaldo ’18 competed against 11 other competitors from Air Force bases across the U.S. in the Salute Hospitality Epicurean Faceoff (SHEF). Her Salmon Chorizo Medley with a Creamy Chorizo Tomato Sauce wowed the judges, and she was awarded the first place prize!
