Commencement at St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a beloved school tradition that unites generations of CHS alumnae! On June 4th, 2025, St. Patrick’s was packed with families, friends, faculty, staff, administration, sponsors, and alumnae to honor the wonderful young women of the Class of 2025.
Commencement began with a prayer by Ms. Elizabeth Hughes, the Director of Enliven, in which the whole church invoked the Holy Spirit: “Come down and pour out your gifts on these Cathedralites so that they may continue to be like the Cathedral we stand in now: strong, beautiful, and resilient temples of God’s love.” Next, Sahai A. ’25 performed our National Anthem on the saxophone, which was so moving!

Our Commencement speaker, alumna Jolevette Mitchell Esq. ’05, is Vice President and Senior Counsel at Apple Bank. In her address, she reminded our graduates, “you are extremely blessed to be Cathedralites” and reflected on how she has grown since graduating from CHS twenty years ago. Jolevette explained that if our graduates are willing to be themselves, be kind, give of themselves, laugh, dream big, and have fun, they will live full and beautiful lives. She shared, “Do not forget who you are: unique and created in the image and likeness of God for a special purpose.” We are so grateful to Jolevette for coming home to Cathedral to share her time, experience, and wisdom with her Cathedral sisters of the Class of 2025!
After our graduates received their diplomas, and certain students received special academic recognitions, Principal Aybar offered felicitations and concluding words. She shared with our graduates, “Know that today an entire Cathedral is filled to the brim with people who believe in your endless potential and will cheer you on every step of the way.”
The Class of 2025 earned an impressive $28.9 million in college scholarships, and the entire class matriculated at colleges and universities, with one student joining the United States Air Force! For the next four years, our young women will make their homes at SUNY and CUNY, University of Michigan and Vanderbilt University, St. John’s University and College of the Holy Cross, and more.
Most importantly, these young women are leaving Cathedral High School with not only diplomas, but also a deep sense of mission and an everlasting sisterhood. Please keep the Class of 2025 in your prayers as they embark on their next adventures!
