Ava J. ’25, a veteran Mock Trial member, stepped into a leadership role for her final season. “Every year I chose the role of witness,” Ava shares. “However, this year as a senior, I took a chance and served as the main attorney for my team. I was privileged to take on the challenge and become a leader.”
With many new members on the team, Ava notes how important consistent practice was: “These meetings not only enhanced the delivery of our trial but also enabled us to know one another's strengths and working habits better.”
Erin V. ’28 joined Mock Trial to try something new as a freshman. She admitted that memorizing facts and learning to handle objections was tough at first, but team drills helped everyone improve!
Hannah W. ’27 shares how she was inspired to join Mock Trial by her mother: “I was inspired to join Mock Trial by my mother. Ever since I was young, I wanted to become a lawyer and I've always told my mother that. Once I began attending Cathedral, she encouraged me to join Mock Trial in order to gain courtroom experience and understand how the law system works.”
Balancing academics and Mock Trial was a learning curve, but Hannah emphasizes that resilience was key: “This year definitely helped me learn how to manage not only completing my Mock Trial work, but also leaving time for my school work and personal time. It hurt to see that we couldn't at least win one round, but we still supported each other on our growth in knowledge in the field of law and public speaking.”
For Oliuska C. ’27, “the proudest moment was when I saw my teammates go on to the podium and defend themselves from the objections of the opposing counsel.” Though she struggled with nerves at first, she credited her coaches for helping her succeed: “At the end of the day, I overcame this fear because of my amazing coaches who trained me to prepare at all times.”
The Mock Trial season may be over, but the confidence that was built, critical thinking skills that were gained, and the Cathedral sisterhood that was strengthened will serve these young women for the rest of their lives. Graduating Senior Ava J. reflects: “I have seen these girls grow in maturity, public speaking ability, and critical thinking skills, which I believe will prepare them for success. I will miss them dearly and I am excited to hear about what the future holds for them.”
Congratulations, ladies, and thank you to our wonderful Mock Trial coaches, Ms. Leo and Ms. Langdon, for your dedication to our students!
