Sophomore English classes welcomed two actors from The Acting Company, a New York City-based professional theatre company dedicated to the development of young actors. They taught our sophomores the variety of ways to express the same Shakespearean words, such as “Oh” and “Thou,” with different stresses and intonation. After practicing lines from plays such as King Henry, Much Ado about Nothing, and Antony and Cleopatra, the students became real Shakespearean performers as they rehearsed and performed short scenes from Macbeth, the play that the students most recently read.
We are so grateful to The Acting Company for sharing their expertise and time, and proud of our sophomores for stepping out of their comfort zones, as “Shakespearean literature is meant to be shared through performance”!
